Dr. Ann Duerr -- Clinical Lead For Vaccine Delivery Research

Through education from some of the best medical institutions in the United States, including Harvard and Johns Hopkins Universities, Dr. Ann Duerr has a strong foundation in the fields of medicine and laboratory science. Specifically her work experience has focused on infectious disease epidemiology and she has extensively published on the topic.

A Special Interest in Mucosal Responses to Vaccines

Dr. Duerr’s NIH-funded research is investigating the potential of oral mucosal vaccinations as an effective delivery method for HIV vaccines. This research will analyze the cellular and humoral (antibody) response at the delivery site, as well as other mucosal sites including nasal, pulmonary, rectal and vaginal. This research will provide insights into more effective delivery methods for HIV vaccines. The HIV Vaccine Trials Network, or HVTN, is also studying mucosal responses to other HIV vaccine candidates.

Dr. Ann Duerr Provides Effective Leadership For HVTN

Dr. Ann Duerr is the Associate Director for Scientific Affairs at the HIV Vaccine Trials Network. This organization has over 27 vaccine trial sites throughout the world making it the largest network for HIV clinical tests. Her experience and leadership has been an essential part of much of the research being completed at HVTN. Her knowledge also helped develop an effective management system for the many publications at HVTN. Dr. Ann Duerr will continue the fight to find effective vaccines and delivery methods in order to stop the spread of HIV throughout the world.
